For what you are describing, you only need one router to connect the 2 network(s) or network segments together. One interface needs to have an IP address to match the first subnet and the second interface needs to have an IP address to match the second subnet.

Connect the cable to one of the LAN ports on router 1 and then route the cable through the house to the placement of router 2. This next bit is very important and is the biggest reason why people have problems with this solution: DO NOT CONNECT THE ETHERNET CABLE TO THE WAN-PORT, CONNECT IT TO A LAN-PORT INSTEAD!

Router 1 Set up this router as normal. In the wireless security settings of the router, disable Automatic Channel selection and manually set the channel to channel 3. I use 2 routers. The first one is leased from my ISP. It is my modem and first firewall. The WAP (WiFi Access Point) is turned off. The only thing connected to it is my second router.
